Get Backlinks - Why Backlinks Are an Integral Part of SEO

If you've been around the search engine optimization (SEO) or website building aspect of the internet long enough, you would have noticed that building a site alone and simply submitting it to the major search engines is no longer enough to get people visiting your site. Before now, that used to be enough, but with a number of advancements in search engine technologies, other factors such "on-page SEO" and "off-page SEO" have come into play.

For the rest of this article, you will come to understand the difference between on-page and off-page SEO. However, most marketers give more attention to "off-page" SEO which is understandable as it is the most important factor in increasing a site's rankings.

On-Page SEO:

On-page SEO is the term used to describe the process of optimizing certain aspects of your web pages to make it easier for search engine spiders to find and index them. These include making sure your keywords are inserted within all the meta tags (in the HTML codes). Basically, you want to insert your main keywords in the Title and description of your website. You may also want to insert your keywords in the H1 HTML tags while using the bold tag in some cases.

Off-Page SEO:

This is by far the most important factor to getting your websites ranked high on all the major search engines, especially Google. Off-page SEO requires you to get backlinks (as many as you want) to your website. Some backlinks are considered more important than others. To understand why this is so, imagine getting references from two or more different people. One of them is the president of the United States while the other is a bank teller. When you present the references to someone, who do you think will be taken more seriously? Well, it's the president of course!

This is what all the major search engines base their rankings on. So to rank high in record time, you should be aiming to get backlinks that are considered much more relevant than others. For example, backlinks coming from websites with.govt and.edu extensions are considered more relevant than those from anywhere else. Also, backlinks coming with websites with higher page ranks are much more relevant than those with lowers ones.
