The Myth Behind Backlinks - Well Explained

The term back links has been doing rounds in the circle of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). And if you are someone stepping into the domain of Internet Marketing (IM), you may not be able to comprehend the importance of these in the implementation of optimization of your website. These play a very vital role in increasing your website ranks of the search engine Google. If you are using online marketing strategies such as adwords, adbrite, etc which charge for your advertisements, then probably you need not be concerned about these backlinks. So let's take the case that you are depending on organic means of increasing your rank in Google, which don't demand pay, and you are inclined towards getting your website published in the first page of the google search results and you neither understand SEO techniques nor have any professional to carry this puzzling strategy for you.

In short, backlinks are one of the hyperlinks on a website which is present somewhere on the web which traces back to your website. To be said in the simplest way, it is a backlink.

The concept adopted by the Google is bit different from other search engines like yahoo, bing, etc. the latter search engines consider your website factors more rather the Google uses backlinks to find out if your new site should get published in the top search results or not.

The anchored text in the link and the authority of the website from which the link is coming are the factors used to decide the rank of your website and in the case of using organic search engine results (free ads), the backlinks are very quiet influencing factors that affect the rankings of your website in the search results.

Having said so much, the question troubling your minds is pretty obvious! How to obtain these backlinks for your website? In the early days, probably you need to make a polite request for such a link form the webmasters and favor them in return by agreeing to provide one on your website for them.

The whole thing today is not very practical and Google is completely against the concept of reciprocal linkage where people link to each other's website. Reciprocal links are of no value and adding to this, the number of links required to reach what you wanted are also more.

Other than the above mentioned entities there are a number of other things which have to be considered as well such as the attributes of your link as well. Even if you procure a thousand links carrying a no follow attribute it does not contribute much towards the page rank of your website. Some people also say that the site contributing a link must be relevant to yours but from my personal experience I do not agree upon this. Overall backlinks play the vital role towards pagerank so make the best use of them.
